"Thank you to the National Association for the advancement of colored people," the actor said on stage. "I spent a lot of time in predominantly white spaces. So it's always a joy to be in a room with us. We are living under an administration that has an attack on diversity, equity, inclusion, justice. That's trying to erase critical race theory. But like [Samuel L. Jackson] said, they can't erase this because there's no country without us." This is Brown's third NAACP Image Award. He thanked Disney and Hulu behind Paradise.

"I would not be up here if it was not for Black women," he later said. "And how hard did you ride for your boy? I see you. I appreciate you. Two in particular, Ryan Michelle Bathe, my wife. My best half doing her very, very best, Vanessa Bell Calloway with Prince Hakeem asking her to bark like dog, a big dog," he joked. The actor shouted out his mother, Aralean Brown, who was at home living with ALS.
Paradise follows a Secret Service agent named Xander Collins (Brown) in a bunker after an apocalyptic event. Season 2 premiered on February 23. The series was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series at the NAACP Image Awards. Percy Daggs IV, 14, was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Youth at the same award show. He plays James Collins and will be in the upcoming Hunger Games movie, Sunrise On the Reaping.
