A court order sought by the Los Angeles Police Department has led to any medical records connected to the homicide investigation of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner to be sealed from public scrutiny.
The LAPD confirmed to * *on Tuesday that it "sought to seal the records of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's investigation."
"The causes of death of Mr. and Mrs. Reiner have already been made public," the department said in a statement. "The order was sought only to ensure detectives from Robbery-Homicide Division learned of important information surrounding their deaths before the media and the public. The order was not sought to undermine transparency."
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office announced that it "received a court order, initiated by the Los Angeles Police Department, to place a security hold" on the morning of Christmas Eve, in a statement shared online Monday.

"While the cause and manner of death were previously released on these cases, due to the court order, the information is no longer available," the statement read. "No other case information or records, including the Medical Examiner report, can be released or posted on the website until further notice."
The statement concluded with the note: "The Department understands the public's interest in these cases and remains committed to transparency when possible. Information will be made available once the court order is lifted."
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the order prevents "the public release of any investigative information, notes, reports, or photos" to anyone other than the "assigned investigators."

The news comes a week after the late couple's death certificates were released, revealing new information about the killings of the *Princess Bride* director and his wife. Their 32-year-old son Nick Reiner was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection to the killings.
The death certificates revealed that the *When Harry Met Sally* director and his photographer wife died within "minutes" of sustaining "multiple sharp force injuries" inflicted "with [a] knife, by another" in their Los Angeles home on Dec. 14, per PEOPLE.
Rob, 78, was discovered their daughter, Romy Reiner, at 3:45 p.m., while Michele, 70, was found one minute later. The Reiners have been cremated.

Nick was arrested in the Exposition Park area of Los Angeles in connection with the deaths of his parents the night their bodies were discovered. On Dec. 16, he was formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders. He faces an additional special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife.

The *Being Charlie* co-writer made his first court appearance Dec. 17, briefly speaking to confirm he would waive his right to a speedy arraignment. His arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 7. If convicted, he faces life in state prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty.
Romy and her elder brother, Jake Reiner, shared a statement mourning their parents on Dec. 17.
"Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day," the siblings said. "The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren't just our parents; they were our best friends."
