Rick Ross was arrested on domestic violence-related charges days after his ex-girlfriend Jazzma Kendrick claimed that the rapper was physically abusive toward her.
The rapper, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, was booked into jail in Florida on Thursday, Oct. 1, on charges of felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery, according to Miami-Dade County court records reviewed by PEOPLE.
During his court hearing, a judge ordered Ross to stay away from his accuser, who was identified only as “J.K.” in court documents.
Ross posted bond and has since been released from custody, court records show.
His attorney, Steve Sadow, said in a statement shared with PEOPLE that Ross “is being wrongfully accused by an ex-girlfriend whose true motivations are unclear.”

“The ex did not even file a police report until September 29, a month after the claimed incident allegedly took place on August 28, 2026,” said Sadow. “Mr. Roberts is innocent and has pled not guilty to the charges”
“He respectfully requests that his friends, fans and the general public not prejudge the situation and allow the judicial process to run its course,” his statement continued.
An affidavit reviewed by PEOPLE claims J.K. and Ross had been in a relationship for about a year and lived together at the time of the alleged incident.
J.K. claims that on Aug. 28, she was awoken by Ross, who was “enraged” by the fact that she was tagged in a photo on Instagram.

The alleged victim claims that Ross questioned her about lying to him and proceeded to slap her in the face. Later that morning, she alleges that Ross accused her of being in a relationship with someone who she claims was just a friend.

Ross is alleged to have continued to question her before he “struck the victim in the chest several times” and “choked the victim to the point she could not breathe by grabbing the collar of the hoodie she was wearing and twisting it.”
J.K. claims she was slammed against the wall by her ponytail, and that Ross began to strike her in the face as she was bent over, “causing a busted lip.”
Authorities say that the alleged victim provided photographic evidence of her injuries with timestamps coinciding with the event, according to the affidavit.

J.K.’s allegations come days after Kendrick went on her Instagram stories to allege that she “left” the musician after the rapper “busted” her lip.
“It’s always good until it isn’t. If a man hits you one time, he will do it again. Don’t give him the opportunity. Value your life and leave,” Kendrick wrote. At the time, she did not specify when the alleged incident took place.
Kendrick and Ross have been linked since at least August 2025. That month, the two were photographed together at a Florida launch event for RR22, Ross’ luxury bag and accessories collection.
