Princess Charlotte’s Pretty Sundress Borrows From Both Kate Middleton and Princess Diana’s Style Playbooks for Family Outing

Princess Charlotte joined her family at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on August 1.

She wore a white sundress with black polka dots and stripes.

The dress nodded to Kate Middleton’s striped sweater as well as Princess Diana’s favorite print.

Kate Middleton and Prince William stepped out for a rare family outing with all three of their children this weekend, attending the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on August 1. For the occasion, their 11-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte, opted for a look that nodded not only to her mother’s signature chic style, but also to her grandmother Princess Diana’s style playbook.

Charlotte wore a white sundress by Guess for the outing with buttons lining the front, a sweet collar, and fluttery sleeves. It featured not one but two royal-approved prints—it was covered in dainty black polka dots, and also featured a series of horizontal stripes across the waist, skirt, and sleeves.

With the stripe motif, the dress matched with Kate’s Breton striped sweater, which she wore with a white pleated skirt and a forest green Ralph Lauren blazer. As for the Charlotte’s polka dots, they recalled her grandmother Princess Diana, who frequently opted for a spotty print.

Charlotte completed the look with a white beaded bracelet, while she wore her long light brunette hair in loose waves and a center part.

Charlotte and her brothers are, reportedly, being slowly introduced into royal life and the responsibilities that come with it. Her introduction is being carried out at a “careful and controlled” pace, according to Hello!. As royal biographer Robert Hardman recently explained, she will likely hold more than one royal title in years to come. “I was told the king wanted to reserve the Duchess of Edinburgh role for her, which could happen,” he said.

He added, “I think she’ll be the Princess Royal.” It’s a title that Charles’s sister Princess Anne holds. “There’s no better model.”
