Pat McAfee launched into a tirade on his self-titled talk show after a joking exchange with Jason Kelce on Monday Night Football prompted backlash.

McAfee pointed out that Kelce, who played for the Philadelphia Eagles for 13 seasons, was engaging in “a lot of ‘we’ talk” when discussing the Eagles’ game against the Chicago Bears.

On Wednesday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show, the analyst said that fans “have no brain” if they thought he was “being serious” about the scolding, telling them, “I hope you all rot.”

Pat McAfee knows a special place where his critics can go.

McAfee opened Wednesday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show in good spirits. Though he’s continued to face considerable backlash for a small exchange with former NFL pro Jason Kelce on this week’s Monday Night Football, McAfee happily shouted out Kirk Herbstreit’s new deal with Amazon to keep hosting Thursday Night Football. But his mood quickly changed.

“I’m happy to see him have success, as opposed to a lot of bums that have microphones in this particular industry,” McAfee began. “Now, I usually mind my own, but if you thought I was being serious whenever I pointed out Jason Kelce was saying ‘we’ about the Philadelphia Eagles, knowing who Jason Kelce is, with the Philadelphia Eagles at the Monday Night Football halftime, you have no brain, and I think you should just realize that.”

Indeed, during Monday night’s MNF broadcast, Kelce repeatedly referred to the Eagles using the pronoun “we,” as in, “We played really well offensively” against the Chicago Bears on Monday. As many later pointed out, Kelce did clarify during the show, “If I’m Philadelphia, I’m looking at it...” before switching to the first person plural. And there’s the small fact that he was the team’s star center for 13 seasons.

But still, McAfee snapped, “A lot of ‘we’ talk from Jason.” It seems clear McAfee made the comment in jest, as he later shared a clip of the moment on his official X account with the caption, “A lot of WE talk [Jason Kelce] 😂😂.” Fans nevertheless piled on McAfee in the comments, reprimanding him for what they saw as a dig at Kelce.

Ryan Clark, a popular sports analyst and McAfee’s ESPN colleague until his recent layoff, even weighed in on the moment, writing in a Tuesday social media post, “I’m trying to mind my own, but hell yea it’s ‘We’ Future Hall of Famer!! You’re a legend [Jason Kelce]. Blood, sweat, tears, & glory in Philly. No one can take that away. You can still do your job the right way! Bump anyone saying differently.”

“I don’t love just the lying and the stuff that happens on my name these days, but just saying stuff to continue to add gas to a flame that isn’t real when you’re in this place and carry as much weight as you definitely do,” McAfee continued in his comments on The Pat McAfee Show. “I think it’s a little bit of a piling on, and I hope you all rot. All of you.”

Clark’s layoff was among the most contentious of the recent mass cuts at the broader Disney corporation, which hit ESPN hard. McAfee even came under fire for his $60 million contract with the network, being confronted on a July episode of The Pat McAfee Show by fellow broadcaster J.J. Watt, who asked him, “Did they keep anybody, or is everybody fired to pay you? I’m trying to figure it out.”

McAfee responded, “That is not funny. We do not like that. We do not appreciate that. That is the narrative, and I am certainly taking it on the shins. The boys and I are very proud of the work that we have done.”
