The “Messy” singer, 25, said breathing feels like “hard work,” but said that she may not try to quit vaping until she is 45

She has been open about her health in the past and sought treatment following a 2025 onstage collapse

Lola Young is taking a hard look at her vaping habits.

The “Messy” singer, 25, revealed in a TikTok video on Wednesday, Sept. 30, that she once brushed off a warning about the potential effects of vaping and now said she’s feeling them herself.

“Somebody once said to me, ‘Lola there will be a day when you wake up, you’ll be 25 or 26, from a deep sleep and you’ll start to feel the effects of vaping.’ And do you know what I said? I said ‘nah’ and rolled my eyes,” Young recalled.

“But let me tell you something, let me tell you something, the day has come,” she continued. “That day has come, where my lungs feel like they’re battery powered, like they’re just one big battery, and breathing feels like a chore.”

The musician said breathing has become “hard work” and joked that she deserves a “£30-an-hour” wage just to do it. As for whether she is considering quitting, Young addressed that, too.

“But let me tell you something, I’ll try to quit when I’m 45,” she said before ending the video.

She captioned the video, “spoken word 4 ya.”

The “Conceited” singer has been candid about her health in the past. After collapsing during a performance at the All Things Go Music Festival in New York City in September 2025, she told U.K. newspaper The Timesseveral months later that she was in “recovery” and was “doing a hell of a lot better.”

“I mean drugs recovery, yes,” she clarified in the March interview. “When you’re in recovery, that doesn’t necessarily need to mean drugs — but me specifically, yes.”

Young has previously discussed her cocaine addiction and, according to The Times, has been to rehab twice. Her third studio album I’m Only F**king Myself was recorded after a five-week program at the end of 2024.

“There were a lot of things going on for me personally — I was going through a lot of mental health issues, a lot of battling with addiction,” Young told the outlet.

However, she described her collapse at the music festival as a wake-up call while speaking to Rolling Stone.

“I am very grateful that it happened because it was, what do you call that? Like, a breaking point which allowed me to then be able to be here today, allowed me to be better for my fans, better for the future, and better for myself,” she said.
