Almost metaphorically, while visiting Wales on February 26, Prince William and Kate Middleton braved the rain together.
In their second joint appearance of the week following Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest on February 19, the Prince and Princess of Wales presented a united front.
This unity included a sweet, subtle moment of PDA many missed on Thursday.
It was a rainy day in Wales as Prince William and Kate Middleton visited Powys for a handful of royal engagements on February 26—but the Prince and Princess of Wales braved it anyway, even stopping their car at one point to get out and greet well-wishers who’d come to see them in the wet weather.

The couple were in Wales ahead of St. David’s Day on March 1, wearing matching daffodil pins and working in lockstep exactly one week after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s shocking arrest on February 19. The former Prince Andrew was released after 11 hours in custody that same day, which also happened to be his 66th birthday.
But none of that strain was evident on Thursday as the Prince and Princess of Wales took on Wales—including subtle PDA that underscored their connection. As royal biographer Ingrid Seward previously told People, after Kate’s cancer journey in 2024, “They are able to express themselves in a way they would never have done before.”

“They are happy for people to see them be touchy-feely,” she added. “They’re in a different phase of their life now. William is very protective and very proud of her for coming through this and carrying on with her life.”
Royal historian Amanda Foreman previously told the outlet that William and Kate “seem more loved-up than ever,” adding, “What they have been through over the last few years has been so terrible. That either drives couples apart or, in their case, it brings them together. It irons out the kinks and enables them to see each other clearly.”

“There is a sense of protectiveness and partnership,” Foreman told People in March 2025. “The last five years have been a nightmare for them in every possible way—the past year even more so. That either crushes a marriage, or it brings them together. And just in time, frankly—if there was ever a time when the country required stability, this is it.”

In Wales on Thursday, William and Kate projected modernity, stability, and, quite frankly, fun, posing for selfies, playing rock, paper, scissors with children, and Kate letting a young girl fasten a necklace around her neck. After Andrew’s arrest, they could have hidden away; instead, their outing in Wales marks their second joint appearance of the week, following a glamorous stop at the BAFTAs on February 22.

As William and Kate greeted well-wishers in Wales, Jill Christofides told the Prince of Wales, “The monarchy is safe in your hands.”
“With all that is going on at the moment, there could be a swell against,” she said, per The Mirror. “But I think when you see the time that he’s willing to spend with the people, I think it’s lovely to see.”

The Telegraph reported that William and Kate took part in “no less than seven walkabouts” on Thursday, “most of them impromptu.” In reference to the rainy conditions, William joked that he and Kate “usually brought the sunshine” but failed to do so that day.

Kate, wearing a burgundy Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen coat, a coordinating pussybow blouse by Me+Em, a pleated skirt by Co, citrine earrings by Kiki McDonough, and boots by Gianvito Rossi, said that she was thankful she had one particular accessory on hand: an umbrella. “I have got an umbrella,” Kate said, per a video shared to Instagram by Rebecca English of The Daily Mail. “Thank goodness someone reminded me!”
