The American public will believe that the Illuminati swapped out an A-list celebrity with a slightly altered sci-fi doppelganger before they even consider that a 64-year-old man shouldn’t look exactly like Ace Ventura.

Every awards season, the majority of American moviegoers tacitly agree to ignore any and every ceremony that isn’t conducted in the English language. For many normies, the first time they even heard about the César Awards was when Hollywood legend Jim Carrey attended this year’s event last Thursday to accept an Honorary César while looking slightly… off.

Over the following days, a rumor spread on social media in which purporters claimed that the Carrey who spoke at the awards show that no one in America watched is not the same Carrey who dominated the box office with movies like The Truman Show and The Mask back in the 1990s. Some fans even went so far as to say that some malevolent shadow organization could have cloned, imitated or otherwise replaced Carrey.

Now the Carrey conspiracy is all over social media, and the comedy superstar’s media team can’t avoid the issue any longer. In a hilariously curt statement to Rolling Stone, Carrey’s publicist recently said of her client, “Jim Carrey attended the Cesar Awards, where he accepted his Honorary Cesar Award.”

Many reasonable observers have pointed out to the clone-believers of the internet that the reason why Carrey looked different at the Césars from our image of him in our minds is that, in his 60s, Carrey doesn't make as many public appearances as he did during his peak three decades ago, and that time always catches up to even the most rubbery and malleable faces.

It is, in fact, normal for someone's appearance to gradually change as they approach retirement age, especially in an industry where stars go to extraordinary medical measures to alter their faces in hopes of avoiding the loss of job opportunities that comes with crow's feet. That's not to say that Carrey must have had some major work done recently, as others have claimed, just that the Fountain of Youth has few visitors besides Paul Rudd and Halle Berry.

Unfortunately for Carrey and his understandably unamused publicist, the discussion over his appearance isn't dying down any time soon, despite the blunt public statement. At the same time, I think that Andy Kaufman would be proud of Carrey for what an absolutely absurd clown show this has become:
