Savannah James and her best friendās travel style recently became a major talking point on social media. But NFL Hall of Famer and notorious LeBron fan, Shannon Sharpe and former Pro Bowl wide receiver Chad āOchocincoā Johnson pushed back against critics who had a lot to say about how LeBron Jamesā wife should use her husbandās billions.
It came after Savannah and her best friend, April McDaniels, revealed that the NBA WAG traveled in first class while her best friend was in business class on the same trip. Speaking on Nightcap, Sharpe and Ocho voiced strong support for the LeBron and Savannah Jamesā approach to financial boundaries and personal friendships.
āSheās like, look, āI aināt got Savannah Jamesā money. I fly on a budget.ā Savannah says, āMy friends understand my situation, and theyāve never made me feel like I was obligated to pay for anything.ā Thatās probably why theyāve remained friends,ā Sharpe explained during the episode.
Sharpe addressed social media commentators claiming they would act differently if married to an athlete valued at $1.4 billion. āAnd I heard people [say], āMan, if my husband was worth $1.4 billion, I would do this.ā Well, your husband aināt worth that⦠If you had a billion dollars, itās easy to say what we would do. We aināt got it.ā

Sharpe, along with Ocho and NBA legend, Joe āIso Joeā Johnson, expressed respect for James and McDanielsā defined boundaries. Ocho even took direct aim at the internet entitlement surrounding celebrity wealth.
āHalf the people that are having these conversations, half the people that are making some of these remarks, they probably would never be in a situation like this in general to be married to a billionaireāa billionaire thatās worked really hard for his money,ā Ocho said. āNot only is he a billionaire, but heās very financially conscious. He doesnāt spend like that. Heās very conscious of what he does spend on, and he spends when he actually has to.ā
Ocho referenced the viral clips of Bronās grand arrival at 76ers training camp to say, āI heard people comparing, āWell, heās taking a helicopter that costs this, and you mean to tell me you canāt just pay for it?ā No, absolutely not, because everyone thatās commenting on it, they feel entitled. They feel entitled to their money because youāre a billionaire. āYes, I am a billionaire. Yes, I am married to one, but Iām not obligated because weāre flying somewhere that treats you to make sure you fly up in first class.'ā
Sharpe and Iso Joe endorsed the mention of āentitlement.ā

Sharpe picked up on Ochoās sharp point to praise Sav, saying,āIām married to the billionaire, not you! But it just goes to show you how mindful and money smart they are. She doesnāt fly private unless sheās with LeBron. Let that sink in for a second now. LeBron is worth what heās worth. Sheās flying first class; sheās not flying private. How many other family members, how many other husbands and wives worth a billion dollars, when they fly, fly first class?ā
The online debate sparked after Savannah James and her longtime friend and business partner, April McDaniel, discussed their travel dynamic on Boardroomās Mental Wealth podcast after their recent trip to Japan. During the episode, McDaniel revealed that, while traveling together, Savannah flew first class while McDaniel traveled in business class because of her personal budget.
Despite the multi-million-dollar wealth gap between the two, McDaniel emphasized that Savannah respects her financial boundaries and never expects her friends to cover her expenses. Yet social media was quick to criticize Sav. Ocho had to point out the irony in the public outrage.
āThe funny thing about this conversation, too, Unc and Joe, the funny thing about the dialogue and all the think pieces that are being written over Twitter is these are the same people that when they go out with their homegirls, they all split the checkā¦. All these hypotheticals. āIf I had this and if I hadā¦ā No, you wouldnāt! Because you donāt do it right now. You donāt do it on a small scale, you donāt do it on a bigger scale.ā
Savannah and Aprilās dynamic ignited a divisive conversation across social media. Commentators debated whether it remains appropriate to set strict financial boundaries when one friend possesses generational wealth while traveling on a 12-hour international flight to Asia.
Despite the public noise, Savannah James maintained that clear, mutual respect keeps her core circle grounded. āMy friends are very respectful of my situation, all of them,ā Savannah stated during her podcast appearance. āIāve never had an instance like that one time. I think that if Iām like, āWeāre going somewhere,ā they already understand what it is. Thereās no expectation of taking care of something or just me being responsible for them.ā
The Nightcap crew had only respect for the friendship and praised Savannah for the financial discipline that Sharpe, Ocho and Johnson noted has kept the James family grounded throughout their multi-decade career.
