During an appearance at the Altria Theater in Richmond, Va., on Monday, Dec. 29, Chase, 82, was asked which of his iconic films he would like to make a sequel to. He answered that heâd want to see a follow-up to 1986âs Three Amigos! costarring comedians Steve Martin and Martin Short.
âRight now theyâre busy on TV making that âI only have murders in my building,â â Chase said of his former costars, before his wife, Jayni, corrected him saying, âOnly Murders in the Building. Itâs a very good show.â
The Saturday Night Live alum agreed, saying, âItâs a good show. Yes, itâs good, theyâre good, but they really are lacking me. Thatâs where we gotta get going.â Chase then argued, âIf you really want to have a movie with Steve and Marty, you have to have me.â

Jokes aside, the National Lampoonâs Christmas Vacation star admitted, âI miss them, thatâs all Iâm saying. I really miss them, theyâre great.â
Martin, 80, and Short, 75, have starred on the Hulu Emmy-winning series alongside Selena Gomez since 2021. It was renewed for season 6, which is currently in production.
When asked about including Chase in the series in 2022, executive producer and co-creator John Hoffman told Deadline, âThere will be plans for many, many other amigos and otherwise and thatâs in process right now.â But there has been no indication that Chase is in talks to appear on the show in the seasons since.

Martin explained during a 2019 interview that he and Short were closer with one another than with Chase, blaming proximity. âHe lives on the wrong coast,â he said of Chase at the time.
The actor added, âWhen our friendship was forming, we lived on the West Coast and he lives on the East Coast. He had a bunch of family. I had no family at that time. And Marty became my child. It just didnât work out. We would run into each other on different things.â

âBut certainly when we made that film we were all bonded very quickly. And we used to have a lot of dinners for years,â Short continued.
Notably, Short participated in the upcoming CNN documentary Iâm Chevy Chase and Youâre Not and is featured in the trailer while Martin opted not to make an appearance.
During a recent interview with Variety, director Marina Zenovich was asked if she viewed the absence as a sign that Martin didnât like Chase. âI canât answer for them, but I think that the absences speak for themselves,â Zenovich said. âWhether itâs scheduling, personal, or saving it for their own doc.â
Iâm Chevy Chase and Youâre Not premieres Jan. 1 at 8 p.m. EST / 5 p.m. PST on CNN.
