GloRilla was raised by two proud parents.
GloRilla (whose real name is Gloria Hallelujah Woods) was born to her dad, Edwin C. Woods Sr., and her mom, whose name has not been publicly shared, on July 28, 1999, and grew up in Memphis, Tenn. Being raised in a religious household as one of 10 siblings, music was always present in the rapper’s life.
“I was raised in church, but we still used to watch 106 & Park and BET,” she told XXL Magazine in September 2022. “I used to love Bow Wow, and Soulja Boy and Lil Wayne.”
Though GloRilla's parents have been more private during the Grammy-nominated artist’s rise to fame, she told Complex that they have been supportive of her music career.
“My daddy know I be talking crazy. Him and my mama,” GloRilla said, adding that her dad called her laughing about the name of one of her singles: “Nut Quick." “They search me up on YouTube every day and find out everything I done did.”
From how they raised their daughter to their reactions to her success, here’s everything to know about GloRilla’s parents.

GloRilla began singing from a young age and was raised in a religious home.
“My grandma’s name is Gloria Woods, and my momma added Hallelujah,” she told ELLE in a July 2023 interview. “[My mom] said that was just how she was feeling, like she blessed me [already].”
“We were a religious, Christian household. We went to church every Sunday,” she explained, adding that she sang in her church’s choir and was a member of the praise-and-worship team.
GloRilla, who was homeschooled until fifth grade when she began attending public school, continued, “My momma was real strict, and I feel like it played a part in how we used to act at school.”
She explained that she was often “acting like an a--” to avoid being thought of as “the quiet one.” At 15, she moved in with her father, who lived 20 minutes away from her mom.

At the end of Glorilla’s April 2024 visit to daytime talk show Tamron Hall, the host shared a special video message submitted by Woods Sr.
“I’m the father of GloRilla, otherwise known as my baby, Gloria Woods. I am very proud of my daughter,” he said in the video.
Woods Sr. continued, “She has risen from humble beginnings to going to the White House. I am extremely proud of Gloria and may she have many, many more days of success.”
While dabbing her eyes after the message ended, the rapper said, “I love my dad. He is like one of the closest people to my heart. I love my dad.”

While Woods Sr. has spoken about his daughter publicly on a few occasions, GloRilla’s mom has been more private. Despite staying out of the public eye, the musician has given a few hints as to what she’s like and what she’s learned from her.
“My momma always told me to be humble and grateful,” she told the in December 2024 after being named one of their breakthrough entertainers of the year.
She continued, “I come from nothing almost. My mom is well mannered. My mom taught us right, like, internally, have a great spirit. My personality and spirit come from my momma.”

The rapper has shared her success with her parents, purchasing each of them a house.
“I had got him a car and a house,” GloRilla said of her father during a December 2022 interview on iHeartRadio’s Big Boy’s Neighborhood, following her first Grammy Award nomination. She added that she had also purchased a house for her mom, and that “her bank account looks good.”
Giving back to her parents marked a special milestone for the rapper — one she didn't think she'd reach.
“It felt like ‘Dang, I really was able to do this,' " she said. "You know people rap about this all the time … I never knew I’d be able to do this, ‘cause you know we never had nothing growing up.”

GloRilla had a special guest with her at the 2023 Grammy Awards: her dad.
“I am very proud, extremely proud,” he told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet.
When asked how he felt watching his daughter walk the carpet of the biggest night in music, Woods Sr. said it was “unbelievable, but you know I’m all into it. I love it.”

GloRilla attended a Women’s History Month reception at the White House in March 2024, where she had the opportunity to meet former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris. Following the trip to Washington D.C., she spoke to CNN about her visit and reacted to a sweet message of support from her mom.
Anchor Laura Coates read an excerpt of a text that GloRilla received from her mom after the visit, which the artist shared on her Instagram Stories.
“I’ve come from being the woman with a bunch of kids, living in a blue house with no real furniture in Frayser to the classiest, most beautiful, and most talented rapper of this generation’s mom who’s moved on up to a beautifully furnished house. Get ’em, Glo!” it read.
“It meant everything to me, because we really did come from absolute nothing,” the rapper shared. “When we was living in that blue house with all my brothers and sisters, nobody never would have thought that nobody woulda been in the White House or nothing."
She continued, “It was just a proud moment for my mama. Like she called me so happy, like she was super excited. That’s one of the reasons that I be more happy about my accomplishments than anything else because of how proud my mama and daddy be.”
